| | I have come to a very sad realization.
it happened this morning, while reading a post in one of my favorite movie blogs, kung fu monkey. He wrote about the writers strike in hollywood, being a movie writer himself (among other things). why strike? he asked, "because the cake is a lie." I recognized this as a reference to the video game Portal, from another blog I read about gender, sex, and video games called Heroine Sheik.
when kung fu monkey wrote that he only expected nine of his readers to get the reference, i started feeling like im in a very lonely place. Those people who would get it are people who play lots and lots of video games, and would have already played Portal which only just came out for PC and XBox in october, and hasnt yet been released for PS3. I, on the other hand, do not play video games.
I am a video game geek who does not play video games.
sure, im a casual gamer. i play brain age2 and animal crossing on the nintendo DS. I play trauma center and guitar hero on wii. but nothing in my level of game play should allow me to get references about cake and lies. instead its my obsessive level of blog reading, finding blogs with a high geek quotient about language, gender, politics, and just generally funny stuff.
::sigh:: |
